British researchers said that the proportion of protein in meat and fish may slow aging and prolong life may reveal the secret of long life. Scientists believe some time ago that a diet low in calories by 60% may prolong life, but British researchers now say that the reduction of protein and calories is not the secret of long life.
This means, according to some, that the reduction of foods that contain proteins such as meat, fish and some types of nuts may prolong life without the need to reduce meals daily.
Said Dr. Matthew Piper from the Institute for Healthy Aging, University College London newspaper "Daily Telegraph" on Thursday that the alternative may be to follow a vegetarian diet.
Some studies carried out on animals, including monkeys to reduce the handling of food are beneficial to health and may increase life.
The researchers found that reducing calorie intake by about 30% may reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer by half and increase the age by one third.
Dr. Piper concluded that "the issue is not as easy to say eat less or more of the nuts to live longer but what is important is the balance in dealing with proteins in the foods you choose."
